The extreme temperature Whinny Warmer® combines a beautiful heather gray wool blend yarn with the amazing Fosshield® antimicrobial yarn. We took the design farther by expanding the knit at the knee and the fetlock joints to allow for the free motion of those joints, thus taking stress off the socks caused by movement. Why do equines need socks in the winter?

It’s a proven fact that metabolically challenged horses often have difficulty adjusting to cold temperatures. This is an actual health hazard for horses that have experienced founder or chronic laminitis as blood vessels in their legs and hooves are likely already damaged. NIKWAX makes wonderful, safe on equine skin, products; TX-Direct Waterproofing and Tech Wash, a wash that extends the life of the waterproofing. These two products combined and used as directed will keep Whinny Warmers dry and warm all winter long even if your horse is out in the weather. Why do equines need socks in the summer?

Horses are pestered all day long by flies. You can spray the legs, hopefully not with toxic chemicals, to help as much as possible, but legs still end up with sores and hooves become cracked and split from the compulsive almost obsessive stomping that horses do to get the flies off their legs!

Summer Whinnys® are made from yarns that wick moisture from the legs keeping the legs cool and in the process, stop the flies from biting the legs. Silver and copper ions embedded in yarns inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungus and mold in the socks so that the legs are in a clean environment. Remove the flies, protect the wounds, the stomping stops, the hooves stay in great condition, and wounds and sores can heal.

Summer Whinnys® are designed to allow for the free motion of the fetlock and pastern joints relieving the stress on the sock which would otherwise contribute to the sock falling down. Summer Whinnys® stay up for the entire day on most horses. You may only need to adjust them in the evenings and mornings.

Summer Whinnys® are easy to maintain. Take them off every 3-4 days to wash and dry. Throw them in the washing machine with some soap and dry them in a hot dryer. The yarns and elastic will be completely re-set for stay put protection.

You can bathe your horse while it's wearing our Summer Whinnys®. Let them dry on the leg! Moisture activates the copper and silver ions so these socks like "wet". If they get muddy, let them dry on the leg. Brush the mud off with a brush once it's dry and off you go. These socks only need washing in a washing machine to re-set the elastics and yarns, but in between time, they can be as wet and muddy as nature dictates.
