Warmblood/Thoroughbred Front leg size (Fits over horseshoe size 2 to 4, 5½" to 6½" hoof width)
Warmblood/Thoroughbred Back leg size (Fits over horseshoe size 2 to 4, 5½" to 6½" hoof width)
Quarter Horse Front Leg size (Fits over horseshoe size 00 to 1, 5" to 5½" hoof width)

Quarter Horse size will fit most standard size horses, Arabs included. It is the size of the hoof that dictates the size you need to order. If you have a standard size horse with huge feet, you might consider buying the Warmblood size. If your horse with huge feet is wearing shoes, consider buying Warmblood size. And in reverse; we've seen some Thoroughbreds with smaller feet that would do well wearing the Quarter/or standard size socks. Call us or drop us an email and we will help you fit them if you are in doubt about what size to order.
If your horse is wearing shoes, we recommend you put duct tape over the nails. The socks will glide on over the foot rather than get snagged on the nails. The socks are tough and can take it, but duct tape makes pulling them on really easy. Duct tape works great when pulling the socks on over any snags on the hoof. The only time an unshod hoof is perfect and smooth is for about 10 minutes after the farrier leaves so keep a roll of duct tape on hand.

How to extend the stay-up power of your socks
Sox For Horses, Inc. is committed to not only producing socks that help horses be more comfortable in the winter and protected their legs from biting flies in the summer, but are safe for the horses to wear.
To meet that goal, we designed the Whinny Warmers™ and Summer Whinnys™ to simply be socks, absent zippers, straps, Velcro, buckles or other attachments that if used incorrectly, can present liabilities to the legs. The socks will eventually fall down due to the percussion of moving feet, but they stay up great on many horses and fall down faster on others.
To help extend the stay-up power of your socks, use Gorilla Gold®- Grip Enhancer. Gorilla Gold® is available at your local sporting goods store or in the “Buy Now” section of this website. Gorilla Gold® is a sticky all natural resin cloth that is used by people playing basketball, handball, LaCrosse and in Track and Field and Martial Arts to offer grip.
When Gorilla Gold® is applied to the leg of the horse, it adds grip to the horsehair helping the socks stay in place for hours and hours. There is nothing in the formula that will cause a skin reaction. After a full month of testing on my horses, used daily, the only change to the hair is that it is shiny and healthy looking and the Summer Whinnys™ are staying in place from 9 am in the morning until 6 pm at night with very little movement.
Slight variations of the formula have been on the market more than 25 years and the people at Gorilla Gold® have had this product on the market for 9 years without a single complaint of skin reaction. It washes off with soap and water from your hands, but we don’t perceive any build up on the leg hair from day to day.
