Short Silver Whinnys™ Socks. In white only.

Short Silver Whinnys™ Socks

The short version socks are not good for horses in pasture or not seen often every day while the socks are in use. They are for horses that are supervised. The short version of the Silver Whinnys™ Socks was created for a USET veterinarian who often treats horses suffering from Equine Pastern Dermatitis such as Summer Sores,(Habronemiasis) and performance boot abrasions. These conditions were located on the top of the hoof, the pastern and the fetlock (ankle). This short sock is ideal for protecting these conditions in this area of the leg, and because they need to be changed daily, they are very easy to manage. Because they are short, they could come off but they are very effective protection if you are constantly changing them for clean socks in order to gain the highest level of protection. If you want to know which length sock is best for your situation, call us. 850-907-5724.

One customer tells us: “They are fantastic for bedsores! I know they make commercial neoprene fetlock protectors for bedsores but they are hot in the summer and wear the hair off the pastern. The ones that are tall have velcro above and below the joint. If put on too tight or incorrectly they can put pressure on the tendons or they twist around if they aren't tight enough.

The short sox are just perfect....easy to get on, easy to get off, just the right length to protect but not be cumbersome! They wash well and don't lose their shape. They are comfortable for the horse and you don't have to worry about stressing a tendon. And they have the specially treated yarns that give them the antimicrobial properties you designed into them. You should try marketing the short sox for bedsores. From reading the forums online, there are a whole lot of folks out there who need something better than neoprene on their horses' legs!” C.R. Whinny Warmers® and Silver Whinnys® Sizes Available:

Warmblood/Thoroughbred fits over a hoof up to 7" wide 7" long if you are ordering the Summer Whinnys. 5.50" width X 6" length is about where this size begins.

how to measure hoofThe Whinny Warmers® only go up to 6" wide x 6" long hoof. If your thoroughbred has the same size hoof as a quarter horse then order Quarter/Standard.

Quarter Horse or Standard Horse size fits over a hoof at the largest 5.5" to 5.75" length hoof width.

Sport Pony for Silver Whinnys™ fit a small quarter, small Arab, pony or donkey. Call if you are not sure if these will fit. We make a special fit sock for donkeys. Please indicate in the "Comments" section of the order form that you are ordering for a donkey.

Whinny Warmers® for Ponies are for ponies, not small horses. 9-12 hands and typical pony sized hooves.

Measure HoofQuarter Horse size will fit most standard size horses, Arabs included. It is the size of the hoof that dictates the size you need to order. If you have a standard size horse with huge feet oversized hooves, you might consider buying the Warmblood size. If your horse with huge feet is wearing shoes, consider buying Warmblood size. And in reverse; we've seen some Thoroughbreds with smaller feet that would do well wearing the Quarter/or standard size socks. Call us or drop us an email and we will help you fit them if you are in doubt about what size to order.

Put a plastic bag over the hoof. Pull the sock on over the plastic bag. Remove the bag. Put the hoof down and adjust the socks. The socks will glide on over the foot rather than get snagged on the hoof. Duct tape works great when your horse won't accept a bag on its hoof.

Return/Refund/Exchange Policy:

Your horse, like many, may love the socks but Silver Whinnys® don't feel like anything your horse has ever had on its legs. They fit like a new skin, not a bandage or wrap. They may take a bit to get use to. Put on pair early, before noon on first day and DO NOT ADD ANY MORE SOCKS UNTIL THE NEXT DAY even if your horse is doing well with the first pair. Always put on the sox early in the day so you can observe your horse and make sure all is well before even thinking of leaving them on the horse all night. Add the second pair early in the following day if all is well.

As you know, new things can emotionally overwhelm horses. Experienced horsemen and women know an easy gradient to all things new is the path to stress free acceptance. If a horse is to have any issues, it may not just readily appear. As with any leg wear, the socks should be at least checked for adjustments in the mornings and evenings. Call us before using them if you are in doubt about fit. Don't use all of the socks on your horse until you know the first pair will work for your horse.

SHFs will only refund 30% of your purchase price on used socks. New-unused socks will be refunded at 100% of your purchase price. You must return the socks for replacement, or refund within 30 days of your purchase. Returns must include a copy of the packing slip or purchase receipt. The cost of shipping and handling is not eligible for refund nor is return shipping. Exchanges can be made with an additional payment for shipping and handling. Items that have been previously replaced because of a sizing exchange are not refundable. If you have any questions about the socks, a refund or exchanges, please call us at 850-907-5724. SFHs recommend that you return socks inexpensively using USPS with "Delivery Confirmation". You must get the socks to SFHs for a "return" credit.
